Our Beliefs

Seventh-day Adventists believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God. This belief informs our principles and practices.  There are also 28 fundamental beliefs that can be organized into six categories: God, mankind, salvation, the church, daily Christian life, and last-day events (restoration).

Our Mission

To prepare the members of the Whittier SDA Church, our friends and neighbors in the surrounding Whittier Community and beyond for the Second Coming of Jesus.

Our Vision

We are a diverse, multicultural congregation committed to a lifestyle of fulfilling the Great Gospel Commission of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20).

Pastor's Reflections

For what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?

Our name reflects our desire and commitment to honor God’s Word, including the celebration of the seventh-day Sabbath (Genesis 2 and Exodus 20). Our name also reminds us of the Second Coming of Jesus. We look forward to His soon return for all who have made Him their most intimate Friend (1 Thessalonians 4 and John 14:1-4).”

The Whittier SDA Church came into being in 1951 when several families living in Whittier who were attending East Los Angeles SDA Church decided to start a church group in the city of Whittier, CA.  Their first order of business was to set up a small school. March Air Force Base in Riverside County offered used building materials free of charge provided the church hauled them away.

With building materials now in hand, the church erected a multi-purpose building with enough space for classrooms, a gym and, later, a church auditorium.

During its peak years, well over 100 students attended Whittier Adventist Elementary School. And as the school grew, so did the church congregation. There was no doubt about it – it was time to build a new sanctuary. In 1988 work began on a new worship facility with capacity for 250 seats. The church building was completed and officially opened in 1990, just in time to welcome the Lynwood SDA Church congregation who had been forced to sell their property due to an eminent domain takeover. With two congregations coming together, the new sanctuary was filled to capacity.
